Chapter 94. A new journey
It was a clear, cloudless day.
It was mid-summer.
Under the brilliant sun, the green grass blades swayed gracefully in the breeze.
"Mmn!"
"What nice weather."
Squinting, they looked up to the sky, gazing at the beautiful weather that seemed to bless their upcoming journey.
Louis and the others had just left the town of Santos.
Having left the town during the day, the three were walking down the same path they had previously taken after being caught in a demon trap and forced to turn back.
The path, carved out of the forest, stood there, just as it had the previous time, blocking their path.
Louis, Iris, and Claire.
Nothing about the three of them walking down the road had changed.
Claire was beaming with energy and a cheerful smile, while Iris walked gracefully with a soft smile.
Louis smiled slightly between the two of them and took the reins of the horse, the other party member.
They were the very image of the hero's party sung by the poet.
"Are we heading for Revalius for now?"
"Yes."
Claire asked, and Louis nodded.
The three changed their destination, heading for a new town called Revalius in the Roda Empire.
Of the many towns on the battlefront against demons, this one is currently the most under attack, and it's also a town where demons have been confirmed to appear.
Since demons have appeared, the hero must go there.
But that wasn't the only reason the three were heading there.
"Sage Grace, huh?"
Iris muttered.
Currently, Revalius is the town most under attack from demons, but on the other hand, it's also the town that repels all attacks.
The reason for this is the presence of Sage Grace.
Speaking of Sage Grace, despite being a female noble from the Empire, she is a talented woman known for her mastery of magic and the development of numerous magical tools.
It was said that she, combined with the newly developed magical tool, was perfectly defending Revalius.
"I'd love for her to join us."
"I've heard they're fighting for the city, and I think she'll lend us her strength if we push back the demons."
Louis and the others were about to go and propose joining her party.
This was to solve the problem that came to light when Louis succumbed to poisoning - his "low anti-swarm firepower."
"Huh?"
They had been walking down the road for a while.
Ahead, beside him, he noticed a man with an unfamiliar appearance standing alone.
Having encountered him before, Louis braced himself.
However, the man, who must have noticed them, raised one arm, ignoring him.
Now that they were closer, the man's face was clearly visible.
His race was Human.
He had no particular distinguishing features—just an ordinary man, to put it simply.
The man with an unmemorable face spoke.
"Don't be so wary."
Louis wasn't the type to let his guard down just because someone told him that.
...But this time was different.
"...Geek?"
"Yeah."
The moment he guessed his identity, the man's face changed.
The ordinary man's face crumbled...and beneath it, the face of a familiar man emerged.
"Why is Geek here?"
They'd parted ways at the mansion in town.
Amazed by his unusual transformation magic, he asked why he was here.
"Well, of course, to get me into the party."
"No..."
Louis couldn't figure out where that confidence came from, but he gave a wry smile at Geek's confident words.
(No... that's impossible...)
It was nice to be reunited with Geek.
It was also nice to see the confident expression on his face.
But that's a different story.
I looked him over once more... and nodded.
"Yeah, it's impossible."
"Why!?"
You ask why... his skill was simply not strong enough.
Looking at his body, I could see the instability of his center of gravity, his movement.
...No matter how I looked at it, I didn't think he'd survive.
"Do something about that!"
"Hmm..."
I don't know what to do if he begs me.
Thinking about him, I had no choice but to refuse.
"I'll help pull the horse and carry the luggage. And, look, I just showed you my transformation magic, so it won't be a burden to the party."
"You say that, but do you understand? This is a life-risking journey."
"I know that! I don't care if I die alone, okay? Right?"
"Even if you say so..."
"Hey, give me the reins, and I'll lead you."
"Quickly."
(I'm the one who'll be in trouble if you die...)
With the reins of my horse taken away, I'm at a loss as Geek keeps pushing me forward.
I have no choice but to give up on dealing with this alone.
I decide to quietly ask my two companions for help.
"What do you think, Claire, Iris?"
While the question is in the form of a question, I'm half-sure that both of them will refuse.
"That might be a good idea."
"I think it would be good."
"...Huh?"
Unexpectedly, the two of them answered "yes."
Louis, on the other hand, was surprised.
"Wow, the other two seem to understand (laughs). So it's 2 against 1 by majority vote, right? I guess that means I'm allowed to join the party."
"Uh, huh..."
"Yes! Now I'm a part of the hero's party! Nice to meet you, Iris and Claire."
"Really?"
"Yes."
I watched in a daze as Geek, feeling good, excitedly approached the two.
I'd heard that he'd shown his capable side when I'd collapsed.
He'd quickly arranged for a doctor and medicine.
Could that be why?
...I couldn't imagine it was because of their relationship.
Either way, seeing the two of them nod without hesitation in response to my question caused a small, dark mist to form in the back of my mind.
"Haa..."
But if these two, who I'd known longer than I had, had made that decision, it seemed odd for me to deny it any further.
And once I'd accepted it, it actually started to seem like a good idea.
I'd been thinking it might be worth inviting him on my journey.
It might actually work out better than I'd expected.
"So where are we heading?"
"Revalius."
"Oh, that town? Are you leaving the party after all...?"
"Do you hate it?"
"Yeah, that town..."
I looked up to the sky, watching the three excited people behind me.
(We've added some unexpected allies, but I think we'll manage somehow.)
A month and a half of stagnation.
An unexpected friend.
Even if there are many unexpected things, I guess this is all part of the journey.
Looking up, the sky shone brightly.
"So, how about we get on?"
"Mnn❤"
"...❤"
Geek whispered, stroking the two girls' butts.
The four of them set off on their journey.
Lilius flowers bloomed in full glory along the roadside, as if to bless their journey.
